The recently announced results of the International Spirits Challenge gave many distillers an excuse to celebrate with some winning multiple awards for their produce.
With judging of various spirits categories taking place throughout the year, it was recently the turn of vodka, gin, rum and world spirits to be put through their paces.
As the world’s most prestigious competition in its field, the International Spirits Challenge, now in its 25th year, is not taken lightly. Despite coronavirus impacting the usual rigorous testing process, judges were still able to uphold their high standards and complete the process remotely, assessing over 1,700 entries from across the world. The panel is made up of respected industry experts with a wealth of experience, including ‘some of the finest palates in the world’, who blind taste each spirit to ensure fairness.
To produce a total score for each spirit, experts rate its aroma, appearance, taste and finish. The drink’s age, region and variety, provided by the maker and checked by the competition’s chairman, is also assessed.
Such a robust judging process has enabled the International Spirits Challenge to build a strong reputation for rewarding the best produce in the spirits market. Entrants can achieve trophy, double gold, gold, silver and bronze medals, all of which producers can be extremely proud of. Recognised internationally as a symbol of quality, these awards can be displayed as stickers on spirit bottles, promoting winning brands to potential customers.
