Fans of the popular television fantasy series, Game of Thrones, have been rushing to buy specially-themed single malt whiskies, which depict the seven houses of Westeros, with a separate one for the Night’s Watch.
Each of the eight malt whiskies have been selected by Diageo and HBO to commemorate the television show, which is due to air its eighth and final season in 2019.
Head buyer for the Whisky Exchange, Dawn Davies MW said:
“This is very popular with both whisky and Game of Thrones lovers, and sold out in just five hours. It’s great to see Diageo partner with Game of Thrones to get their malts out to a wider audience.”
Master of Malt, another whisky retailer, restricted buyers to just one of each bottle, and also sold out in a matter of a few hours. Whisky retailers have revelled in the success of the launch, which has been one of the best in recent years, with stock quickly selling out with enthusiasts keen to own this unique collection.
The collection features special single malt whiskies from Dalwhinnie, Singleton, Cardhu, Laguvulin, Oban, Talisker, Clynelish and Lochnagar. Each has been assigned to represent a House, namely Stark, Tully, Targaryen, Lannister, Greyjoy, Baretheon and Tyrell, and not forgetting the Night’s Watch.
Fans of the show and whisky lovers could also add to their unique collection with specially engraved whisky glasses to match each malt. Engraved with the name of their favourite House or character, this would make a distinctive piece of memorabilia for when the show came to its end.
