Summer rye whiskey cocktails to tempt your tastebuds

Back to Blog

Plenty of us are staying home and entertaining this summer as the pandemic continues, and it has given us the chance to experiment with new, exciting drinks and recipes. Here are a few classic cocktail recipe ideas to enjoy rye whiskey in.

The Manhattan

The most traditional of whiskey cocktails, the Manhattan is one of the most well-known drinks in the world. Rye whiskey is mixed with Angostura bitters and sweet vermouth – you can use any rye whiskey, and it’s a great way to test out brands you haven’t tried before. It should be served in a coupe glass for maximum elegance.

Mint Julep

Perfect for a summer evening, this refreshing drink consists of bourbon whiskey, fresh mint leaves and a little sugar. Muddle well to release the mint flavour and pour into a classic tumbler.

Vieux Carre

Not for the faint-hearted, this classic from New Orleans takes rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, cognac, Benedictine and no less than two types of bitters. Measure carefully to get all of the complex flavours, and then sit back and enjoy this legendary cocktail in your favourite engraved whisky glass.

Highball

Last but not least, the Highball has just two ingredients. Use any rye or blended whiskey, mix with ginger ale and serve over ice in a tall, engraved glass. Easy to make and easy to drink, this classic combination is always a winner.

With these recipes up your sleeve, it’s the perfect opportunity to crack out your best engraved crystal whisky glass and indulge in a tipple or two.
