Like last year, there was no glittering, star-studded ceremony for the 2021 TV Choice Awards, but that didn’t stop thousands of fans from following the popular award show live online.
Line of Duty was one of 2021’s most watched programmes, and both Martin Compston and Vicky McClure were victorious in their Best Actor and Actress categories, while the show itself won Best Drama Series. For the seventh time in a row, Call the Midwife won Best Family Drama, whereas Bridgerton walked away with Best New Drama. Firm favourites Ant & Dec won Best Reality Show for the sixteenth time with the hit programme I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
It was also an award-winning night for Coronation Street, as David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper, was named Best Soap Actor, and fellow Corrie star Sally Carmen, who plays Abi Franklin, was named Best Soap Actress. Coronation Street also walked away with the Best Soap Award. With other engraved awards going to Gogglebox, Long Lost Family and This Morning, to name a few, the winners of each TV Choice Award are voted entirely by the viewing public.
The lucky winners each receive a special statuette that has an engraved plaque bearing their name, date and the category in which they won. Made out of aluminium and nickel, which has been highly polished, the statuette depicts three stars bursting out of a solid base. There is also a gold-plated version, which is reserved for special awards.
