Since 1948, the BAMBI awards have been Germany’s most coveted media award. The prestigious accolade celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018, and still ranks as one of the world’s best loved award ceremonies.

Originally awarded to the stars of the big screen, the first BAMBI statuettes were made from a fine white porcelain. By 1958, the trophies were also being awarded to the stars of television too, as more and more people began having television sets in the home. The 1980s saw this extended to include all areas of the media world.

For the first five years, the BAMBI was awarded privately in the recipients homes, then 1953 saw the first gala ceremony, held in Hamburg. In 1958, the fawn-shaped statuettes began to made from bronze and then gold-plated with 18 carat gold. These stand at eleven inches tall, measuring eight inches in length and weighing around five and a half pounds. Runners up receive a silver version of the award. The engraved awards are modelled on a design by Kurtfritz Handel, a renowned German sculptor.

Winners of the coveted award have included names from across a wide spectrum of the world of media such as Sophia Loren, Rock Hudson, Tom Cruise, Bill Clinton, Muhammed Ali, the musician Seal, Queen Sylvia of Sweden and Queen Rania of Jordan to name a few.

Here at H Cooper Glass Engravers, we are confident our wide range of glass and crystal awards will be a much appreciated addition to any award ceremony, giving pleasure to recipients for years to come.
