Each year, the film and television industry gathers in a flurry of extravagant ceremonies and star-studded award shows to recognise the work of the stars of the sector.

January starts the season off with the 77th Golden Globes on the 5th January, held in Los Angeles at the Beverley Hilton Hotel. This is followed closely by the 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards on the 19th. Barely taking a breath, the season continues with the 62nd Grammy Awards on the 26th, live from The Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

Eventually it is the turn of the British on February 2nd, with the 73rd BAFTAs ceremony, which is due to take place live from The Royal Albert Hall in London. The season culminates with the 92nd Academy Awards on February 9th, the pinnacle of the industry awards and always held in Hollywood.

With most nominees for films, television shows and music having been announced in December 2019, there is always a lot of speculation over who will walk away with the coveted engraved awards, and the ceremonies themselves never usually go smoothly, which promises good entertainment value.

The season is sure to be a glittering affair, with the best of the best all vying to take home a Golden Globe, a Grammy, BAFTA, SAG or even an Oscar, with these statuettes being symbols of success and recognition. There are bound to be disappointments, and also a few surprises, but without doubt the eyes of the world will be watching.
