One of the world’s most famous sporting trophies and engraved awards is continuing its tour across the 32 qualified nations, visiting Croatia most recently.
For the first time, all of the qualifying nations of the FIFA World Cup will receive a visit from the trophy itself. The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca Cola visited Croatia on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September, and will continue its tour until its last stop in Qatar just before the start of the competition on November 20th, 2022. Not only is the trophy on display to the public, but special guests will be at each stop of the tour.
FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer explained the importance of this trophy tour:
“By, for the first time, visiting all the nations that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup, the momentum of the Trophy Tour will continue to build, giving fans of all ages a taste of the excitement to come – and we hope they will join us in Qatar later this year for the ultimate celebration of the beautiful game.”
The FIFA World Cup is one of the world’s most famous solid gold engraved awards, weighing in at 6.142 kg. Its design is from 1974 and it is presented temporarily to the winning team at the World Cup due to the regulations that state FIFA should remain the owners of the actual trophy. The winning team will get a permanent winner’s trophy, a gold-plated engraved award as opposed to solid gold.
