Exploring the best of Indian beers

Back to Blog

Indian beers have proved massively popular over the last few years, but they do range in strength and can catch you out if you’re not careful. To help you choose, here are a few of the top Indian beers available today.

Light and easy to drink

The Bira 91 Light is only 90 calories with a low gravity, which makes it the perfect choice for a lunch-time beer that won’t leave you fuzzy-headed. Meanwhile, at 4.8 percent, the Kingfisher Premium and the Kati Patang Zesty Amber are both gentle to drink and won’t be hard on your system.

A bit more gutsy

With an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 4.85 percent, the Goan beer called King’s brings a bit more to the table, but still nothing to worry about. The same can’t be said for London Pilsner, which, although the gravity is only slightly higher, at five percent, can catch you unawares the next morning. It may be better to stick to beers like Spark Belgian from White Owl, a citrusy beer that’s a lot gentler and easier to handle.

Full strength

Kalyani Black Label, at eight percent ABV, is surprisingly nice to drink, despite the heady buzz it gives you. For those up to a challenge, keep your favourite engraved drinkware safely tucked away when drinking either Godfather or Bro Code – with a gravity of around 15 percent, you may not be responsible for your actions, and you could be guaranteed a humdinger of a hangover in the morning.

Indian beers are seen as the perfect accompaniment to a curry, so pick your poison and tuck into a delicious dish.
