To celebrate her upcoming Platinum Jubilee and to commemorate becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch, the Queen has released her own sparkling wine in collaboration with the Royal Collection Trust.
Queen Elizabeth celebrated 70 years of being on the throne at the beginning of the month, with official celebrations happening in June of this year, along with an extra bank holiday. Those wanting to start the celebrations early can try the new Buckingham Palace English Sparkling wine for £39 from the Royal Collection shop. All profits will go to the Royal Collection Trust, the charity that looks after the Royal Collection and manages Her Majesty’s residences.
The wine itself is said to be a traditional sparkling blend sourced from the vineyards of West Sussex and Kent, including a mixture of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The shop describes it as having:
“Enticing aromas of rich and honeyed citrus fruit, white peach, and hints of sweet spices.”
The bottle also has a special design, with its gold label taking inspiration from the embroidery upon the Queen’s Robe of Estate worn on her Coronation Day on the 2nd June, 1953.
The sparkling wine went on sale on the 11th February, joining other commemorative items such as teddy bears, coins, chocolates and biscuits. One of these items, which features a similar hand-cut design to the label on Her Majesty’s wine, is a set of Platinum Jubilee Special Edition engraved crystal champagne flutes made for the occasion.
