The DP World Tour has launched a new Golf for the Disabled (G4D) Tour in order to increase the inclusivity of the golfing competition and support the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA).
The plan for the G4D Tour includes at least seven tournaments and a significant financial support package for the EDGA via the DP World Tour’s Golf for Good initiative. This support will see the association become a semi-professional organisation, transforming it from its previous volunteer-led setup.
The EDGA is committed to provide these opportunities for new players to get involved in the competition, and as part of the financial support package, these players will receive help with accommodation and travel, as well as significant exposure through the DP World Tour’s media channels.
The G4D Tour itself will consist of seven events across six countries, including England, Germany, Ireland, Spain and Dubai. The tour will also visit the Wentworth Club for the first time for the BMW PGA Championship, and it will conclude in Dubai, where qualifiers will compete at the Jumeriah Golf Estates.
According to the Irish Post, disabled golfer Kipp Popert praised the EDGA:
“The EDGA has been doing amazing work for more than 20 years and this new collaboration with The DP World Tour will create opportunities for more golfers with a disability to showcase their talents and compete on a global stage.”
The introduction of competitions like this makes the sporting world even more inclusive and gives more individuals the chance to be presented with engraved awards of their own.
