The new Randox Grand National Trophy for 2023 was recently unveiled live on ITV Racing. From engraved glass trophies to those crafted from precious metals, these awards are a popular award issued at major sporting events in the UK and the rest of the world.
The Grand National trophy is among the most prestigious and iconic and trophies in horseracing. When health company Randox’s announced it would begin sponsoring the steeplechase in 2017, Dr Peter FitzGerald, the company’s CEO, stated that a brand-new trophy would be produced for each year the event was held. The owner of the winning horse of the Grand National race will receive a full-size trophy, while the winning jockey, groom and trainer all receive a miniature edition.
The latest trophy design for 2023 features important elements to represent the company’s achievements and values while paying respect to a celebrated racehorse. Etched at the bottom of the new award is a tribute with the words:
“Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Red Rum winning his first Grand National race.”
At the trophy’s apex is a wonderfully sculpted horse in mid-jump, to symbolise the 30 different fences every winner must leap over during the April contest. Instead of a fence, the racehorse is depicted leaping above a horseshoe, representing good luck and protection. In the very centre of the award, there is a drop of gold blood to symbolises Randox’s cutting-edge diagnostic testing leading upwards to a DNA double helix, to represent the firm’s expertise in genomic testing.
