The design for the 2019 BRIT Awards statuette has been revealed by artist Sir David Adjaye OBE who had the honour of designing this year’s award.
Redesigning the statuette has become something of an accolade for artists and designers. Recent years have seen the statuette transformed by names such as Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Vivienne Westwood, Peter Blake, the late Dame Zaha Hadid, and Sir Anish Kapoor.
The 2019 statuette has been forged entirely from glass and portrays the iconic female form of Britannia, as in previous years. The artist, Sir David Adjaye OBE, explains how the statuette explores “the nature of perfection and imperfection.” He goes on to say:
“She is unique, and proportionally she is very different. Now, we have something that I really, really love. I’m very happy with it”.
Sir David Adjaye OBE has worked on some of the most prestigious projects over the years, collaborating with artists, musicians, and fashion designers from around the world. His latest offering is a chance for the lucky winners to take home a unique piece of stunning artwork, as each statuette carries its own imperfections and distinctive individual qualities.
The engraved awards are presented to the best in British music every year, and the BRITs are an important part of the award ceremony calendar. The prestigious, red carpet ceremony is held in the O2 Arena in London, and is usually a glittering affair attended by the British music industry’s most prominent contributors.
The first BRIT Awards were held in 1977 on behalf of the British Phonographic Industry.
