Students from Abingdon and Witney College have been competing to design the next trophy for the Aston & James West Oxfordshire Business of the Year Award 2020 (WOBA).
The awards are celebrating their 10th anniversary, and art and design students were invited to create a special trophy to commemorate the event. In all, 32 students took part in the head-to-head design challenge. They are all studying for their Diploma in Art, Design and Creative Arts at the college.
The winning design was created by 16 and 17 year olds Mollie Bridgewater, Bry Cockburn and Marty Baker. They produced a trophy which is inspired by nature, designed to be seen as either a person or a tree, and symbolises the growth of the West Oxfordshire business community. The design will be turned into a permanent statuette for the award ceremony, which is to be held at a gala evening in March 2020.
Course Leader at the Abingdon and Witney College, Leah Wells said:
“I’m so proud of every single one of them. They have fully embraced the WOBA project to produce incredible designs and so soon after joining college.”
She went on to describe how the project had given the students a taste of what collaboration on a project entails, and valuable experience of working in the design business and creative industries. Darren Aston, sponsor of the Business Awards also expressed how impressed he was with all the entries. Engraved awards of the future will involve the creative talents of students such as these.
