Fans of American bourbon will likely be breaking out their engraved shot glasses at the news that Kentucky Owl has released its new Batch #12. Founded back in 2014, the label was a relaunch by Dixon Dedman paying tribute to the brand originally run by C.M Dedman, his ancestor. The original brand existed from 1879 to 1916, before Prohibition ground it to a halt.
Those with experience of Kentucky Owl will not be surprised to hear that the latest core bourbon from the brand is both high in quality and price. At over £300 a bottle, this straight pouring whiskey doesn’t come cheap, but bourbon connoisseurs looking for a luxury tipple will not be disappointed by what awaits beyond the seal.
A blend of four-year-old and seven to 14-year-old bourbons, Batch #12 is bottled with an alcohol content of 115.8 proof. The use of a range of ages is combined is combined to create balance. While deeper flavours emanate from the older bourbon, such as caramel, vanilla, cherry and hint of oak, they are infused with spicier notes from the younger inclusions, creating heat on the finish.
