British Airways rewards club members for drinking wine

British Airways has started a new wine club for its Executive Club members to earn points every time they purchase wine.

The new club follows the airway’s decision to go their separate ways from Laithwaites, their current drinks merchant, and the promise to bring a new service that allows Executive Club Members of British Airways the chance to collect points every time they purchase specially selected wine. These points are rewarded in the form of Avios, the airway’s reward currency that can be collected and used on future flights.

The Wine Flyer, as the new wine club has been named, was launched on the 4th October and allows club members to choose from over 140 different wine varieties, earning up to 15 Avios for each one pound spent. It is said to be a very generous way to earn Avios rewards, according to Jack Smith from club collaborators International Airlines Group:

“A monthly subscription will help customers collect enough Avios to fly to destinations such Paris, Barcelona or Naples in just six months.”

According to BA, the wine selection has been based on quality and accessibility, only from countries within the global network of the airway. Prices begin at under £10 for a bottle and subscription packages allow members to choose deliveries every month or every 3 months.

It remains to be seen if the subscription service is good value in terms of wine quality, but early bird members can get a special offer until the end of 2022, meaning they could be sipping on their discounted wine from their engraved wine glasses while earning even more Avios at the same time.
