Pride of Britain attracts TV audience of five million

The winners of the Pride of Britain awards 2019, were celebrated at a glittering ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this month.

The event was televised and shown on ITV on Tuesday, November 5, attracting over five million viewers, which makes the show one of the highest viewed award ceremonies in the UK. The awards are in recognition of the extraordinary achievements of ordinary people from all walks of life, in particular those who have faced difficult challenges or performed selfless acts of bravery.

The categories included Child of Courage Award, Fundraiser of the Year Award, the Prince’s Trust Young Achiever Award, Outstanding Bravery Award and the Emergency Services Award. The stories of the winners range from extraordinary acts of courage, to exceptional community service, and incredible lifetime achievements. Each nomination is carefully considered by a panel of celebrities and representatives from a wide variety of backgrounds.

The winners receive engraved awards depicting a winged lady, which is cast in bronze and then nickel plated. The statuette stands on a black plinth engraved with the winner’s name, date and category.

Pete Markey, a spokesman for the Pride of Britain awards, has said:

“Pride of Britain is a fantastic way of celebrating the nation’s unsung heroes who make a difference in the lives of others.”

The awards began in 1999 and have become a popular annual event in the UK. They have been hosted by Carol Vorderman since the very beginning, and have included guest appearances by personalities from all sectors of the entertainment industry.
