Pregnant lady gives homemade award to considerate passenger

Yvonne Lin, a product designer from New York and around 36-38 weeks pregnant, recently presented a fellow New Yorker with an engraved trophy that reads, ‘#1 Decent Dude. First Man to Offer Subway Seat to Pregnant Woman Throughout Two Pregnancies’.

Lin, 38, shared a photograph of the recipient accepting the trophy on social media site Instagram. Since then, the story has gone viral.

The caption alongside the post explains:

“I didn’t get a single seat offered to me by a man throughout my first pregnancy. So for the second pregnancy, I had this made and I’ve been carrying it around everyday-till last Friday. This guy is the winner! #subway #nyc #pregnant #socialexperiment.”

The homemade trophy consists of a figure resembling The Hulk, with a ripped shirt and flexed muscles. At a total height of seven inches, the figure sits upon the engraved plaque. Lin initially carried around an inscribed card during her previous pregnancy, but decided that something more fitting and substantial was needed. An engraved glass award can provide a professional touch for awards like this, but since she would need to carry it around with her, Lin made her own.

The winner of the award is Ricky Barksdale, 34, a stuntman and Army veteran. He had no hesitation in offering his seat to the pregnant passenger and chuckled as she presented him with the trophy. Barksdale later told ABC that he thought she was just going to give him a business card.
