Vault City, an Edinburgh-based brewery, has released a new sour beer inspired by the classic biscuit the Wagon Wheel.
Aiming to transport consumers back to the 1980s and 90s with nostalgic flavours of strawberry jam, marshmallow and dark chocolate, the brewery is paying homage to the popular biscuit of many people’s childhood. Reported to have a light, sour base, the vegan-friendly beer has an ABV of 9.5 percent, and the brewery are hoping the beverage will be a hit amongst fans of sour beer.
The Vault Wagon beer, as it has been named, is part of Vault City’s sour Sunday releases throughout May. The brewery releases new flavours of ale every three weeks, and Vault Wagon has been launched this month alongside Peach and Mango, White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and a beer inspired by the Papa Doble cocktail.
Vault City has stated that it always wants to challenge what it is that most people usually expect of a beer. The company has released a number of creative flavoured beer concoctions previously, including its Pineapple Upside Down Cake beer and Fruits of the Forest beer.
Beer is one of the most popular drinks in the United Kingdom, with over £7 billion being spent on the beverage in 2020. There has been a significant increase in the number of off-trade sales, which shows the upward trend in at-home drinking. Whether at home or in a pub, this new flavour beer could be made even more special by being served in engraved glassware.
