The new trophies for the Brit Awards 2023 have recently been revealed, having undergone a redesign this year by Olaolu Slawn, a designer from Nigeria.
The Brit Awards aims to celebrate the best artists in the music business, and the iconic award is given out to the winners. This year, the trophy has been designed with the usual helmet not on the award’s head but by its side. According to Olaolu, this means ‘hats off to you’:
“My decision to remove the helmet from the award is my way of thanking The Brits for providing me with this opportunity.”
Slawn has also incorporated his Nigerian heritage into the new design, as well as use the design to show his gratitude because he understands that these kind of opportunities, in his own words, ‘don’t come along very frequently for individuals like myself.’ The Chair of the 2023 Brit Awards has praised the 2023 trophy as bold and powerful.
The award itself has undergone a few different redesigns over the 43 years of the Brit Awards. People such as Dame Vivienne Westwood, Sir David Adjaye and Sir Peter Blake have all had the opportunity to design the trophy in their own style. For 2021. the Brits revealed its first double-trophy design, with colourful trophies given out alongside engraved awards to represent acts of kindness back during lockdown.
The ceremony will air on Saturday 11th February 2023, the first time in the history of the award show that it will be held on a Saturday.
