Christmas is a time for merriment and joy, with many people attending parties and gatherings throughout the festive period.
Here are five cocktail suggestions to try this year. Some are old favourites with a modern twist, and some you may not have tried. This is the perfect time of year to dust off the engraved drinkware and give them a try.
Classic Eggnog
This seasonal classic uses bourbon and spiced rum to give you a warming glow. Add to beaten egg yolks and sugar, and top with beaten egg whites and nutmeg. The classic eggnog is a traditional cocktail which will have you coming back for more.
Hot Buttered Rum
This inventive cocktail tastes as good as it sounds and is perfect for cold wintery days. A butter batter, made from equal quantities of butter, sugar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg to taste, is blended with vanilla ice-cream. A good dollop is then added to rum and boiling water.
Rusty Apple Toddy
A twist on the traditional hot toddy, Drambuie is mixed with lemon and hot apple juice, and garnished with a cinnamon stick. This cocktail is a great way to finish an evening, warming your cockles before you head off to bed.
Grand Coffee
No meal is complete without a coffee and liqueur to finish, so why not combine both with this cocktail. Blend Grand Marnier with a brown sugar syrup, add freshly brewed coffee and top with whipped cream.
Chambord Kir Royale
The celebration drink perfect for New Year’s Eve and seeing in 2020. In your best engraved crystal champagne flutes add Champagne to fruity Chambord, and finish with a lemon twist and a fresh raspberry.
